One Year

I made this card for my daughter’s first birthday. I painted it in watercolor first, and then went over it with diluted Noodler’s Eternal Luxury Blue ink in my flex nib pen. I wrote a message inside the card and sealed it. I am planning on making one every year and then giving them to […]

Stormy Day

I was so blessed that we didn’t suffer any damage or power outages from Sandy. She was not so kind to many other people however, including some of my family, so I am sad about that. Work was called off on Monday, giving me more time with Cate (which I am so thankful for). I […]

Cold Days

In my mind, fall and winter and early spring are merged into one season and today I officially brought out all my cold weather gear. I recently bought flannel sheets and slept with them on my bed for the first time last night. I love them; they are so luxurious! I also bought a flannel […]

All Day Artist’s Date

This past Saturday I had the chance to have the entire day to myself, which I spent in Northampton, MA. I have a lot of good memories from there, and it has a lot of creative energy. I only made one sketch all day, but I did have a good time and I got a […]

Zine!

A few weeks ago I did a relatively quick Sunday morning pen and ink drawing to be published in Destiny Zine #2, a zine with the theme of empowering girls and women. The drawing is inspired by a photo I took while visiting Lake Eden, VT about a month ago. I had the idea that […]

Morning Sketches

I’ve started to keep a small sketchbook in my car so I can make sketches before work, and when I am out and about. I haven’t branched out into color yet though.

I love sketching in ink.

Sketching in ink has become my favorite method to practice in my sketchbook. It really forces me to be confident in my observations and marks. Here, I took a couple of minutes to sketch some lilies on the kitchen table.

Poppies

A family friend saw my last sketch of the mini petunias and requested a similar style drawing of poppies for her husband. Not having any reference photos on hand, I used this photo I found online as a reference. Although I strive to use my own material whenever possible, advanced search in flickr is a […]

Mini Petunias

Last week I did some pen sketching on my front stoop. My goal was to sketch quickly with confident strokes and I think I succeeded. It was very hot and I was in direct sunlight, so I came inside after about fifteen minutes and colored the blossoms yellow.

Relay

I spent some time at the Franklin County Relay for Life this past weekend. I would have loved to do even more sketching, but there was so much going on that I couldn’t manage. My husband’s family gets really involved in the Relay every year, so I hope to sketch some more next year. Above […]
